Future Grandchild

I posted in the fall about my impending "grannydom." Well, we now know the bump in my oldest child's belly is a girl!!!! Both my daughter and son-in-law were hoping for a girl, as he comes from a family of three boys. This baby will be the first grandchild on both sides of the family, so she's destined to be cherished and spoiled rotten. I can hardly wait! :)

Oh, and this brought tears to my eyes.... Barbi (my daughter) and Nathan (son-in-law) will name their first child Annabella Debra. Yes, Debra after yours truly. I'm so honored and humbled I can barely stand it. Annabella Debra is a mouthful, so I asked the mom-and-dad-to-be what nickname they anticipate, and they both said, "Bella."

I warned them that I swore no one would call my Barbara Jean "Barbi," but I was the first one to do it, and it stuck. At least she doesn't spell it like the doll.... I anticipate little Bella being called Belly in a loving way, but I promised both her parents that I will do my very best to resist the urge.... :)

Oh, and I'm also anticipating a wee bit of revenge, since Barbi (born on Christmas Eve, 1981) was an 8 pound, seven ounce baby with a head like a bowling ball.... ;) The verb push was usually followed by another four-letter word that memorable day!

Happy reading, all!

Love,
Deb

  1. I love the name Bella. My daughter has a Corgi by that name. LOL!

Grannydom is awesome! As a mom I was busy and paid less attention when the baby was content. Now I savor watching every waving hand, kicking foot and milky bubble.

    I even like changing diapers.

  2. What a beautuful name and how wonderfully exciting. I remember how happy I was when I learned my favorite niece (she has to be my favorite she is the only girl in the family other than my daughter)was having her first baby. I can only imagine the joy of becoming a grandmother.

You probably alredy know this, but with the nickname Bella, she will be the envy of just about every teenage girl in America.

For those of you who don't know, Bella is the name of the heroine in Stephanie Myers YA Twilight series.

    Congratulations Deb :)

  3. LOL on the Corgi. I'll have to let Barbi & Nathan know about that. Thanks for sharing.

Tricia, very cool about Stephanie's heroine. I didn't recall that. I'll let the parents-to-be know about that.

The grandma-to-be--aka Yours Truly--bought them an early baby gift that's being delivered today. It's something every new parent needs--a washer and dryer. :)

Barbi is having a home birth with a midwife in attendance. She's had a text book perfect pregnancy, so I'm sure all will be fine. Both grandmothers get to be present. When I told my dad I was a bit worried about a first baby being born at home, he said, "I was born at home and look how great I turned out. Ha!" :)

    Thanks, all.

    Love, Deb
