Once Upon a Time...

In a land far, far away, known as Wichita, Kansas, I met a handsome prince. It was 1976, and I was only 19, though I thought--of course--that I knew everything. He was 21 and had recently left the US Air Force Academy and was stationed at McConnell Air Force Base. My mother thought he was a "walking, living, breathing doll." And, well, he was. We were married on August 6th, 1976, and remained together until our children and I lost him to cancer on May 14th, 2005. He was, and always will be, our hero .

Love,
Deb

  1. Deb, I wish I had something profound to say. I know you keep your beloved husband in your heart. Hugs to you. From the stories I've heard, he sounds like an amazing man. Wish I had known him.

  2. My parents had 36 years together before my father's death back in 1999 and I still send my mother a very specail card each year to honor their marriage.

Such a wonderful way to honor your husband and this most special day for your entire family.

  4. I remember your wedding day too, very hot and sticky but a marked blessing for the family. It started the next generation's moving into lives of our own. I really miss Dave. He was a great big brother. I sometimes wonder if it's better to keep people at a distance so I won't get hurt. Lived that way for many years and I thought it served me well. I don't anymore though and have to say that the benefits of love outweigh the pain of loss. It's what we were created for.

  5. Thank you, all. Dave would appreciate your remarks.

Scott, I have a lovely photo--several, actually--of you in your baby blue tails.... :)

    Keep smiling, all.

  7. I've avoided this posting for a while...knew it would be here. I miss Dave very much...you were the perfect couple. I have to remind myself how young we were when you were married when I look at my niece settling down so young. Yes...it is possible to find THE ONE at that young age. Took me a little longer to find Mr. Right.
