Robin Hoodwinked On Kindle!

Maid Marian and The Lawman by Deb Stover cover art
Maid Marian and The Lawman by Deb Stover
Now available for your Kindle and a beautiful trade paperback wherever books are sold! Don't see it? Please, order!

This book has always been a work of love for me. They all are, but some more than others. Maid Marian and The Lawman comes from my personal experience of raising a loving family with my late husband that includes both our birth and adopted children of varied races and abilities. We have loved all our children equally and unconditionally.

The secondary characters of Robin and Sunshine in this story will touch your heart--at least I hope they will. I have a Sunshine singing right down the hall from me as I type. In fact, this book is dedicated to her. I think you'll know why when you read it.

I have uploaded the first chapter here for your review.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Merry Yule, Merry Solstice, and  Happy Happy.... :)

Deb

Maid Marian and The Lawman

I love new releases and new cover art. Yay! This month I celebrate both just in time for the holidays.

In 1999, Kensington Books released a historical very special to me titled Stolen Wishes. It went on to win a Reviewer's Choice Award from Romantic Times Magazine (now RT Book Reviews), and several Readers' Choice Awards. Since then, I have revised and polished this project, and the wonderful Deborah Smith at Bell Bridge Books deemed it special enough to be reincarnated as Maid Marian and The Lawman.

I couldn't be more honored!

The cover is stunning, and my editor also happens to be one of my favorite authors. So if you think I'm giddy with delight, you are correct.

The changes at Yahoo Groups forced me to finally give up the antiquated DebStover group for a real newsletter. Any of you who were already subscribed to the Yahoo Group were transferred to the new mailing list. There's an opt-in form to sign up for future newsletters at http://www.debstover.com/contact.html. Every issue comes with an easy unsubscribe link if you no longer wish to receive it. You can also re-subscribe with a new email address, if necessary.

If you didn't receive the newsletter sent on 10/20/2013, your email address probably bounced, in which case the server automatically unsubscribed you. :( Please go to http://www.debstover.com/contact.html or check your spam folder and "white" list my newsletter. :)

Meanwhile, my Autumn newsletter is viewable online here:

For those of you who have not yet met the Mulligans, the first book is now available for 99 cents at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, and more--for a limited time! Meet Riley, Bridget, Maggie, Fiona, Jacob and the quirky villagers, along with mysterious spirits of centuries past. "Take a down-home Tennessee single mom who's astonished to learn the man she thought abandoned her has actually bequeathed her a share of an Irish castle, and you have the makings of a rollicking tale that's as tasty as the title." ~ BookPage

“Deb Stover just took flight on wings of magic and landed in Ireland in a pot of Mulligan Stew hot enough to singe your eyebrows off with her extraordinary characters that jump off the pages into your heart. This book has everything necessary to keep you flipping the pages because from the moment you meet Bridget and Riley you know there are other forces at work to bring them together to break the curse on the Black Castle that has stood vacant for l00 years. I highly recommend this book. ” ~ Suzanne Coleburn, Reader to Reader

"Utilizing the same magic that made her historical/time travel novels such a delight, author Deb Stover brings emotional depth & passion to this terrific contemporary tale. As a writer, Deb Stover has a unique style & voice that are a pleasure to read in any genre."~Jill Smith

"Deb Stover writes with a stunning beauty and wry wit that resonates throughout all of her novels, but never so profoundly as with Mulligan Stew. Like the stew for which it is named, this novel offers something for everyone's taste in this artful blend of Irish contemporary romance, an ancient curse, a haunted castle, Gothic overtones and the struggle to reconcile the past with the present. Characters are vividly realized from the heroine who will kick another woman in the shins for hurting her child's feelings, to the hero who cannot forget the dead brother he loved so deeply. Stover creates a poignant tale of loss, healing and recreation that will linger long after the last page is turned. Yet another Stover novel to add your keeper shelf, Mulligan Stew earns the WordWeaving Award for Excellence." ~ Cindy Penn, WordWeaving

"Deb Stover has taken a delightful heroine, a tortured hero, a whispering castle, stirred in an ancient curse for spice and served up a deliciously rich, warm Irish stew."
~ Bestselling Author of the Shelter Bay series, JoAnn Ross

"Humor, passion and the warmth of family fill the pages of Mulligan Stew, drawing the reader into a magical place of possibilities and the wonderful healing power of love. Deb Stover has created a captivating tale grounded in the basic tenets of life... nothing is more powerful than family and the love of two hearts joined together. I highly recommend Mulligan Stew for a hearty dish of romance and passion."
~ Terrie Figueroa, Romance Reviews Today

"I read this book in a matter of hours. It drew me in from the prologue to the very last satisfying page. Not only was this book sensual from the get-go but the charming heroine with her Southern twang added just the right amount of comic relief when it was most needed. Add all this to a dark gothic-like castle with a curse attached to it, and you have a not to be put down, must read book!"
~ Kathy Boswell, The Best Reviews

"Author Deb Stover spiced up this romance novel with just a dash of magic. At times I felt as if the past and the present were one and the same. I found it delightful to see a strong modern heroine in the haunting setting of a Gothic tale, taming a stubborn man who fit the dark setting so well. Somehow the author was able to put it all together while showing the reader how breathtakingly beautiful Ireland really is. Highly recommended! Five stars!" ~ Huntress Book Reviews

“A recipe for romance--star-crossed lovers, a dark Irish castle, a witch’s curse, and a heaping helpin’ of destiny. Deb Stover cooks up a satisfying contemporary gothic-style romance, chock full of humor, passion, and mystery. Bon appétit."
~ Leslie Tramposch, PNR Reviews

Play It Again, Sam

US Marshal Sam Weathers won readers' hearts when he first appeared in my second book, A Willing Spirit, back in 1996. Mail started arriving in droves, begging me to write Sam's story. The problem was, Sam was the "Spirit" in question--yes, he was dead. So whenever I wrote subsequent historical novels set in the geographical areas where Sam had lived in the years prior to his demise, I always tried to use him in the plot as a secondary character. That wasn't difficult, as his larger-than-life persona--think Rooster Cogburn, only younger and sexier--proved useful in many historical settings. So Sam also has important secondary roles in Another Dawn and Stolen Wishes.

Despite having US Marshal Sam Weathers in three books, readers weren't satisfied. They wanted him to have a story of his own. ::sigh:: And, frankly, so did I....

When Lou Aronica invited me to participate in the second Novelists Inc anthology, I was honored. However, when he told me the theme, I was thrilled! I knew instantly that this was the perfect vehicle for the long overdue Sam's story.

I Never Thought I'd See You Again

"Play It Again, Sam" isn't the only story in this anthology. You will find compelling stories by Allison Brennan, Alyssa Day, Kathryn Shay and more!

Mortal enemies, lost loved ones, those left for dead. The phrase "I never thought I'd see you again" applies to those situations and more. Check out the newest anthology from Novelists Inc to see how the authors brought their imaginations to that phrase.

Mult-buy links' here.

Happy reading, and let me know what you think of Sam's story--at last...

My Story Garden

I am a Story Gardener -- I neither plot nor "pants" the idea. It's more like planting a seed (the characters), then watering and nurturing with Goal, Motivation, and Conflict (thank you, Debra Dixon). The Story Garden will need fertilizer (organic, of course, which could be stinky). The Plot will climb a sturdy trellis, that must assure a beginning a middle, twists and turns, and an end. The Story Garden will grow from the bottom to the top of the Plot Trellis. A gardener never knows what gnarly twists and turns--or weeds and bugs--a Story Garden may develop before the fruit fully ripens. My task is not to smother the natural vitality of the Story Garden, but to ensure the Vine does not rot in the process.

Happy Spring!

I blinked and winter became Spring. At least that's what we're hoping here at 7,436 feet above sea level. The first week of May we still had snow. I took the snowy photo below on May Day. After a few days, we blinked and the afternoon high was almost 80! Ah, Springtime in the Rockies... This mid-May weekend's forecast calls for lows in the upper thirties and highs in the upper fifties. Those tomato seedlings will stay indoors a bit longer here. Even with a greenhouse it's too cold outside at night for tomato plants.

I'm still counting on barbecue weather for Memorial weekend.  Wish me luck!  :)

It's time to start thinking about beach reads.  I will have Almost An Angel (published in 1997) ready for reissue by June 1st, and will then turn my attention to editing my very first book (from 1995), Shades Of Rose. In the middle of all this, I'm still working on the proposed sequel to The Gift, tentatively titled The Secret.

I will have a new project included in an anthology titled I Never Thought I'd See You Again (Fiction Studio Books). This anthology provides the perfect vehicle for a story I have wanted--needed--to write for over a decade. Though it is a stand-alone story, the characters were first introduced in my second novel, A Willing Spirit, published in 1996, and now available in digital format. The character of US Marshal Sam Weathers endeared himself to my readers, and to this date I still receive mail asking when I'm going to write Sam's Story. My contribution to I Never Thought I'd See You Again, titled "Play It Again, Sam," is Sam's Story. Finally...  Check my Books Page for a release date and cover art, coming soon.

Happy reading! Happy Spring!  Love, Deb

Once Upon A Time

Winter is in full swing here in the Rockies. Snow is beautiful, and moisture is necessary, but I'm ready for Spring flowers and gardens.

I'm noticing renewed interest in time travels lately, which has always been my favorite sub-genre of Romance. These books are fun to read and to write. There's something really intriguing about looking at history from a contemporary viewpoint. My favorite time travels are those that do not incorporate a revolving door time portal. The mechanism for transporting the character through time must have serious consequences. If it's too easy, it sort of spoils everything. Doesn't it? There's an article I wrote several years ago about time travels still up on the Internet here. And there's an interview with PNR on writing time travels here.

My time travels novels include: Shades of Rose, A Willing Spirit, Some Like It Hotter, Almost An Angel, Another Dawn, Citizen Daisy, and A Moment In Time. I also have a time travel novella titled "Keeper Of The Well" included in the Murder Most Romantic anthology.  You'll find more information and buy links on my Books page.

I've been busy this past year reissuing my backlist, so most of these time travels are now available in digital format. I'm planning to get Shades Of Rose--my very first book--and Almost An Angel released this spring.

Always is my latest reissue. This is a contemporary romance--a reunion story set in the Rockies--which I lovingly call "Dr. Dolittle Meets Northern Exposure." The heroine is a doctor and the hero is a veterinarian in a small quirky mountain town. Though there is humor, it's also very heartwarming and sexy. I hope you enjoy it. This book was originally released by Zebra in 2000 as A Matter Of Trust. I hope you enjoy it.

Right now I'm finishing a story for the next Novelists Inc anthology. My story is titled "Play It Again, Sam." Yes, for those of you who have been asking, this is United States Marshal Sam Weathers starring in the lead role at long last. It took some fancy work to bring him back to life, but when have I ever let that stop me?

Check my Books page often for special offers and new releases. I offer titles for free download fairly often.

Happy reading, and may all your days include a bit of magic!

Love,

"Erotically charged and emotionally heartwarming..."
~ RT BOOK REVIEWS

Dr. Dolittle meets Northern Exposure....

Gordon closed the door behind her and walked woodenly to the bed.
He wanted to forgive Taylor. Desperately. But he couldn't trust
her. If he allowed himself to trust her, she'd have the power to
hurt him. No matter what, he couldn't give her that power ever
again.

The floor creaked just beyond Gordon's door, and he held his
breath as the doorknob turned. His heart thundered and he wanted
desperately to call out to her.

Slowly, the door opened, and Taylor stood framed by firelight.

"Dear God." His gaze drifted down the length of her, savoring
every inch of bare leg. His body sprang to life even as his mouth
formed the words, "Taylor, don't..."

"I've been lying awake, and I can't stop remembering." She padded
barefoot to his bed. "Look at me, Gordon."

He raised his lashes and met her gaze. Something bright and hot
and dangerous burned in her eyes. "Do you know..."

She put her knee on his bed and cupped his cheek with one hand,
then brought her other knee onto his bed and framed his face with
both hands. "I only know this," she whispered, leaning closer to
cover his mouth with hers.

Gordon held his breath as she pulled him closer, stroking his
lips with her tongue until he growled and wrapped his arms around
her to tug her down on top of him.

He should hate her. He should fight this.

He couldn't.
